Professional Experiences

Dr. Safora Johansen has held various prominent positions in academia and research, reflecting her expertise and dedication to the field of radiography and radiological sciences. She is currently an academic appointee at the University of Toronto (2024-present) and serves as the Chair of the International Academic Network at the International Society of Radiography and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) since 2022. Dr. Johansen also holds a part-time Associate Professor position at the Singapore Institute of Technology (2023-present) and has been an Associate Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) since 2013. Additionally, she is a Senior Researcher (20%) at Oslo University Hospital (OUH) from 2013.

Her previous roles include serving as a Senior Researcher at the Center for Shared Decision Making and Collaborative Care Research at OUH (2011-2013) and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at OUH (2009-2011). Dr. Johansen began her research career as a Ph.D. Fellow at the University of Oslo (2006-2009) and a Research Assistant at OUH (2002-2006). She has also worked extensively as a Radiographer, Radiation Technologist, Lecturer, and Scientific Advisor at OUH, OsloMet, and the Radiographer Society (1994-2002).

Throughout her career, Dr. Johansen has been actively involved in teaching, research, and professional organizations, contributing significantly to the advancement of radiography and radiological sciences through her work and leadership.

Research Interest:

Dr. Safora Johansen has made significant contributions to the field of radiography and radiological sciences through her extensive research activities. Her research focuses on improving clinical outcomes in radiography, advancing medical imaging techniques, and enhancing radiation therapy protocols. She has held various research positions, including Senior Researcher at the Center for Shared Decision Making and Collaborative Care Research at Oslo University Hospital (OUH), and Postdoctoral Fellow at OUH. Dr. Johansen has successfully secured numerous research grants and fellowships, such as a NOK 3,000,000 grant from The Directorate for Higher Education and Competence (Hk-dir) for the project “Sustainable Radiography Education and Collaboration” in 2021, and multiple projects funded by the International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (DiKU). She has supervised several PhD students, with their research focusing on areas like long-term cardiac function in breast cancer survivors and contrast medium enhancement in chest CT scans. Dr. Johansen has also contributed to the academic community through her roles as an associate editor for the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences and as a board member of the Journal of Clinical Radiology & Imaging Journal. Her active participation in international conferences and advisory boards further highlights her dedication to advancing research and education in radiography.
